1. Department of Theology

The Department of Theology is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become competent scholars, pastors, and Christian leaders who will establish a Christian culture on the Korean soil. This department is firmly founded on traditional Reformed faith and theology.The department offers such courses as liberal arts, basic social sciences,modern languages, biblical languages, and Reformed theology.

Through these courses, students will not only receive instruction necessary for further theological training but also face challenges for a higher moral and spiritual life. They will be able to pursue further studies at Chongshin Theological Seminary and other leading seminaries abroad, advance to graduate courses in other universities, or get occupations
in which they try to create a Christian culture in a secular society.


2. Department of Christian Education


The curriculum for the Department of Christian Education is designed to help students prepare for Christian education ministries in various professional capacities under the Presbyterian General Assembly.

It aims to equip them with solid educational theories and field experiences.
The graduates of this program will become religious educators or chaplains at junior or senior high schools, or educational directors at local churches.
Most graduates, however, will advance to Chongshin Theological Seminary. A few of them will go abroad for further theological and educational training. To provide for the needs of the students, this program offers various educational courses which aim at equipping the students to do significant explorations in the field.
It also offers theological courses which will provide a solid biblical foundation for the entire curriculum.

Additionally, the program encourages students to take courses to meet the requirements
for a teacher's certificate.


3. Department of English Education

The Department of English Education is designed to equip students with both practical and professional skills of English education. In order to produce sincere Christian teachers of English, the program offers a wide range of elective courses within the English Education Major along with other courses in Humanities and teacher training.

The English Education program trains students through theoretical courses such as English Education, English literature, English linguistics, etc. And all courses are related to preparing our students to teach English in middle or high schools. Our program also includes such practical courses as English Speaking, English Listening, English Writing, English Essay, Classroom English, Special Course for TESOL, Christianity and ELT, and Field Experiences in Teaching English, etc. In addition, to help improve the students' English, the Department performs an annual English Role Play Contest.

With their degrees, students of this program have many job opportunities. They can be English teachers at local middle or high schools after they have earned teaching certificates. The students can also advance to graduate schools or seminaries for further studies, or work for trade companies as well.

4. Department of History Education

Our department is to educate competent Christian history teachers who are going to take charge of the history education in the secondary education field and to train experts who are going to attend to researches for history and the education of history on the ground of Christian historical view. Our faculty includes specialized courses of Korean, Oriental and European history. In addition, all students participate in historic spot investigation programs in the field of education, and should complete teacher-training courses. Moreover, these history lectures have the aim to figure out and estimate the particular relationship between history and Christianity.

The students make field investigations of the historic scene in the spring and fall to give supplementary historical explanations and knowledge gained in the field. They research all the literature on the remains of object previously and produce a research material document with results after the seminar. They can also have various intellectual experiences related with a major through group activities and branches of the department for teachers' examination, learning languages, cultural experiences, and Seoul field investigation.

Graduate students find their way to private middle schools with teaching certificates or public middle school after passing teachers examination. Students can enlarge the range of careers to pursue after the graduation because they can get bachelor degrees with a minor, double or more majors these days. And the others do a very good job in the field of the political, judicial, press, publishing world and many others.

All the professors and students cooperate with and trust each other for cultivating history teachers and experts of talent and create the desirable culture of university.

5. Department of Early Childhood Education

The importance of early childhood education is increasingly recognized for children are the future of our nation and the world. The Department of Early Childhood Education is designed to bring up professional kindergarten teachers of Christian early childhood education.

This program provides for courses with balanced perspectives on early Christian education and general education to help students to earn a teacher's certificate.

This department has an affiliated kindergarten in which students will have practical experience to become competent kindergarten teachers. This field education widens their horizons about how to manage a kindergarten class.
Graduates from this department work at kindergartens, nursery schools, daycare centers,
and Sunday schools. Upon graduation, they receive a second-level certificate of kindergarten teacher.


6. Department of Church Music

The department of church music at Chongshin University has been an important center of church music in Korea and has built up an excellent musical tradition since its establishment in 1973. The department trains young Christian musicians to be equipped for a variety of music ministries not only at a local church but also all around the world. It offers a bachelor of music degree in church music with a concentration in voice, piano, organ, orchestral instruments, composition, or conducting. This undergraduate program is designed to provide students with essential musical training for a professional career as musical expert and basic ministerial and theological instruction for church ministry. The department also offers a master of music degree for students who pursue advanced studies in music. Ensemble opportunities include an orchestra, wind ensembles, string ensembles, a massive choir, Chongshin Choir, and other performing groups, and the department presents various musical activities and performances throughout an academic year. Many of Chongshin graduates serve God and the people in the world as concert artists, music teachers, church leaders such as pastors and music ministers, and significant persons in the music industry.

Master of Music (M.Mus.)

Purpose of the Program

The Master of Music program is designed for those who desire advanced studies in an applied area within the setting of church music. Possible applied areas of study include voice, piano, organ, violin, composition, and conducting. Students in the program are required to take several core courses, including church music seminar, Baroque music, a history of church music style, advanced choral conducting, and two theology courses. A graduate recital and a thesis are also required. The students are expected to strive for musical and academic excellence and Christian leadership.

Admission

Any applicants with a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university may be admitted after passing entrance examinations, which include an audition in the major applied area, an English test, and an interview. Applicants are expected to demonstrate general understanding of music and strengths in his or her applied area as well as strong Christian belief.

Requirements for the Degree

Students must meet the following requirements to receive the Master of Music degree:

1. A minimum of 28 credit hours as advised by the program supervisor with the grade
... point average of 2.7 on a 4.3 scale.
2. Two years-four semesters-of residence.
3. Passing proficiency exam in the English language in addition to satisfactory fulfillment
... of required courses and a graduate recital in his or her applied area.
4. A thesis written under the supervision of an advisory professor in the department.
5. A successful oral defense of the thesis in front of a committee of 3 professors.



7. Department of Child Studies

Based on christian, especially Calvinistic worldview, The Department of Child Studies provides students with a program, that prepares professionals who can work with children in different social welfare service programs and educational settings. The program is divided into three sections : development and counseling for children; curriculum and methodology; christian education.

Development and counseling for children includes development and psychology of children(0-18), counseling, introduction to child studies, clinical psychology, mental health, research trends, philosophy, parent education, counseling and child development
Curriculum and Methodology includes musical instruments I & II, mathematics and science education, theory and practice of play, nutrition and health, music & movements, administration and management, art education, practicum in teaching, children's language and literature Christian education provides curriculum of christian education, child studies and theology, child welfare, introduction to special education.

Students who finish all the course work in BA program will receive first-level teaching certificate for day-care center and those with MA program will receive a second-level teaching certificate for preschools and kindergartens.



8.Department of Social Work

The Department of Social Work offers broad educational features including the extensive field training based on a Christian world view and understanding various issues and policies affecting clients and social service organizations. Especially, careful affection is given to the pursuit of excellence in reformed Christian social work education.

We dedicate to the highest quality social work education focusing on professional knowledge development and dissemination to serve the profession and social welfare institutions.

The program is also characterized by preparing students for excellent leadership and advanced practical roles in the international level as well as in the domestic or church related profession.
Graduates of the Chongshin Social Work program will be equipped with the best quality education in terms of academic knowledge and practical experiences based on a Christian perspective.
